 The Saw

I will always remember the time when I got my cast off.  I had broken my leg on September 10th.  I wore the cast for about 6 weeks.  It all started when I was going to the hospital.  I had to sit in the waiting room for a couple of minutes until the doctor called me in.  I had to sit on the bed while they got this mini saw.  They said that it wouldn't cut my skin.  They even put the saw on their own hand for proof!  Then they began to saw the cast.  The saw touched me a couple of times, but all it did was burn just a little bit.  First, they sawed both sides of the cast.  Then they got this tool to pry open the cast.  I was a little scared because the doctor said the tool might pinch me.  Finally, when they got the cast open, I looked at my leg.  It was as small as my pinky!   My muscles no strength after being in the cast so long.  Then they took me into the x-ray room to make sure that nothing happened to my leg while it was in the cast.  After that, they said my leg was all ready to go and that I will be back walking and running in no time.  At first it was strange because it felt like I was still in the cast.  A few weeks later I am feeling totally back to normal.  I hope that if you every get a broken leg, you won't be afraid of the saw.

Two Assemblies!

This week we had two special assemblies.  One was all about safety, and the other was filled with magic.

Lieutenant DeRitis visited us to present his annual assembly on Fire Safety.  Here are some of the
things we learned about what to do in case of a fire or other emergency.
  • Make sure your family has a safe meeting place outside in case of fire.
  • Put Child Safety stickers on the window and bedroom door of all children in the family.
  • Stop, drop and roll if your clothes are on fire.  Cover your face to protect yourself.
  • Block smoke from under your door with a towel or clothing.
  • Make sure the door is not HOT with the back of your hand.
  • Never go back inside a burning place.
  • Sleep with your bedroom door closed.
  • Don't hide in your room.  Firemen need to find you.  Stay low to the floor.
  • Call 9-1-1 to get help.  Call from your house phone if you can so the computer knows where you are.
  • If you call from a cell phone, FIRST say your address!
Our second assembly was a Magic Show!  Joe Holiday came to show us how much Reading Rocks!
