Get ready...

It's time for your first Social Studies quiz on Thursday Sept. 27th.  Remember to take your book and notebook home to study.  You can also view the Chapter 1 slideshow to review.  Don't panic, though... the quiz will NOT cover Lesson 3 and the geographic regions of the USA.  That comes next week :)

Here is a sneak peek at the quiz.  Click on the picture tomake it BIGGER.  The questions will be in a different order on Thursday.

It's a Vocabulary Week!

Did I remember to mention at Open House that we do spelling every other week? On alternate weeks we will do several nights of ELA homework focusing on another objective such as grammar, usage/mechanics, etc.

This week we are working on a vocabulary unit consisting of ten words. The theme is "School," and the words are listed in your child's planner.

There will be a handout each night and a quiz on Friday Today we made flashcards for your use at home. The quiz will be matching, fill-in-the-blank, multiple choice or a combination. The objective this week is to become familiar with these 10 words and be able to use them in the proper context.

If you have any questions, just let me know.

It's Book Club Time!

You can look forward to our first book order of the year this week.  Did you know that with every dollar spent, our class earns Bonus Points that can be used to get lots of free stuff?  Most of our books were acquired using Bonus Points.  The spinning book racks were free too!

September is a great time to order because Scholastic offers a special promotion for back to school.  We can earn THOUSANDS of extra Bonus Points with our orders this month.  Check out this video to hear about just a few of the books in the Lucky catalog this month.

Happy Friday :)

Our first two days were very exciting!  We worked hard on an interview project and learned lots of hints and tips for writers.  We took our first Rocket Math test using Addition Level H.  About half the class passed with ease.  The other students will try Level H again, as many times as they need to, before moving on to Level I and beyond.

What can you do to help at home?  Brush off those old addition flashcards from 2nd grade.  Don't student the whole pile, though!  You should focus on (+0), (+1), (+2) and the doubles (2+2, 3+3, 4+4, etc.)  We will take our Rocket Math speed tests every day except for Mondays.

You can find Rocket Math tests right here on our blog... in the right sidebar.  Print up the test you need and practice at home.  Use a one-minute timer.  Your child's goal remains the same as in school.  Good luck!

Welcome to Third Grade!

I am so excited to meet each one of the members of our new class! There are so many fun things planned for our first few days together. You can look forward to some activities and games that will help us "break the ice" and get to know each other. We will also spend some time together putting together our "Class Code," which will serve as our contract of guidelines and rules for a successful third grade year together. This will be our first BIG project together, which is why Ms. Stanton will be needing lots of good help and great ideas!

There are a couple of things you should know about the first day of school. First of all, it will be DAY 1, which means our special will be Gym with Mr. Scholder... Yay!  Try to remember to wear your running-around-shoes.

Also, there will be some exciting changes in the cafeteria this year. There is a bigger menu with lots of fun and healthy choices each day. Don't worry, though... Friday is still pizza day. Whew!
