South Jersey League Swim
Championship
John R:
The day of my swim championship race was thrilling. At first I was pretty nervous because it was the winter swim championships for South Jersey. My first event was the freestyle stroke. I got second place in my heat. Next I did the backstroke. I was swimming as fast as I could. When I got out I asked for my time. He said... 23.00 seconds flat! Then he gave me a ribbon that said heat winner. I was filled with excitement! Gavin and I were number one and number two out of all 7-8 year old swimmers. We scored 37 points for our team together. When I go to my award ceremony I am going to receive a gold medal. I swam two more events. My last event was the freestyle relay. I was the anchor and it was a close race. We were neck and neck with the other team. Finally, they won by a teeny tiny millisecond. I had a great time at this thrilling swim meet.

For my swim championships this year I had to go to bed early the night before to get enough rest and wake up early because it was far away. I had to pack a lot of healthy food like apples and granola bars so I would have a lot of energy for the day. When I got there I was so nervous. My belly felt upside down. I was nervous because I could take home four medals. In my last championship race I won three bronze medals. My first heat (race) was the freestyle stroke. I got 18 seconds. I couldn’t believe I came in fourth place out of all the 7 and 8 year olds. My second heat was the backstroke and I came in second behind John. The third race was the butterfly stroke and I came in second again out of all the 7 and 8 year olds. The last race of the day was a freestyle relay with John and 2 other kids. I went first and John was the anchor. We got second place again but it was really, really close. So I got three bronze medals last year, three silver medals this year and I’m going for three gold next year. I think I had a pretty good championship this year.
