My Long Trip To Clementon
It was a sunny Friday afternoon. First time going to my big sister's new apartment. I was very happy to go see her. My family and I had lunch before we left. It was supposed to be a one hour trip but it turned out to be the longest trip ever.
We got in my grandfather's
car around 2:41 in the afternoon. Then we stopped for gas at Sam's
Club. There was a long line of cars, we had to wait our turn. I
thought we were never going to get there! Finally we got the gas and
left. The traffic was going slow so I started to write on my ipad to
keep track of the trip. Then I looked out the window and I saw
cumunolimbus clouds the clouds that bring rain. I thought it was going
to rain but I was happy it didn't. I checked the clock on my ipad.
It has been 39 minutes but we were still far from my big sister's
house. Are we ever going to get there? It is now 3:39 in the
afternoon. We got lost on the way because the GPS took us to the wrong
address. I was so tired of sitting in the car and I was getting
hungry. My dad called my big sister and she told him where to go. We
finally got to my big sister's house at 4 in the afternoon. I hugged my
sister and I said thank you for saving us!
Look at that smile! |

MY CHEER COMPETITION
One day I had a cheer competition! The first thing my team did was we took pictures while we waited and waited in the hallway. We waited so long we got to play bubble-gum-bubble-gum in a dish. Then finally it was our turn. We all lined up in the entranceway and we could hear the crowd from Absecon screaming. I couldn’t wait to show my coach my backhand spring! When the performance began, I did my backhand spring! I was so excited. Then we had to wait the whole entire day for the results. FINALLY IT CAME AND THE WINNER WAS THE BLUE DEVILS!

My Trip to Hawaii
I went to Hawaii this summer. The island that we went to was Oahu. The first plane ride was about 5 hours and the second ride was about 8 hours. The first day we just looked around the hotel because we were tired. The hotel was very big and pretty. The pool was super big and had a water slide. We went to a little shopping street with really good ice cream. There was a private beach too. Then we went to another island that was Maui. The hotel room was a little bit smaller then the one in Oahu but the Maui hotel had penguins and parrots in the lobby. My dad and I went snorkeling at the beach at this hotel. We saw lots of fish and we saw a turtle. We went to a luau with great dancers and really good food. Another day we went zip lining in the mountains, it was so fun. Before we left to go to the air port we drove up a volcano crater. The volcano crater was very cold. then we sadly had to leave. The ride home wasn't too bad because I slept the whole ride.

Persimmon Paradise!
In class we read Dear Juno. Juno's grandmother was sitting under a persimmon tree in Korea. We looked up persimmons to see what they look like. That's when I saw the fruit and thought they look like a tree that I have in my back yard.
The persimmon tree is cool to have in my yard. When the fruit is ripe, it drops down to the grass. This can get pretty messy. My dad and I built a persimmon trap to catch all the falling fruit. It works good!

Our persimmon tree is tall and it is leaning over my fort. It looks weird. Ewwwww.....for the first time I tasted a persimmon, and they taste not so great!
Ms. Stanton cut one of the persimmons in half. It was really hard to cut open. The seeds were in a flower shape inside.

The
Squishing of the Giant Bug
A couple of days ago I saw
an unbelievable thing: a 2 inch house centipede in the morning at school! Surprisingly everyone was calm except…Ms. Stanton! She freaked out! I got up and squished it. Its
head popped when I stepped on it and everyone was quiet. It looked like it had two heads because its
head was popped in half.
- People in Japan have pet house centipedes.
- Their fangs usually can’t puncture our skin, but a bite from a house centipede feels like a bee sting.
- House centipedes have 15 pairs of legs.
- They groom their legs one at a time like a kitten would.
- They eat other bugs like spiders, ants and cockroaches.

Human Family
An excerpt from the poem by Maya Angelou
I note the obvious differences
in the human family.
Some of us are serious,
some thrive on comedy.
The variety of our skin tones
can confuse, bemuse, delight,
brown and pink and beige and purple,
tan and blue and white.
I've sailed upon the seven seas
and stopped in every land,
I've seen the wonders of the world
not yet one common man.
I know ten thousand women
called Jane and Mary Jane,
but I've not seen any two
who really were the same.
in the human family.

who really were the same.
We love and lose in China,
we weep on England's moors,
and laugh and moan in Guinea,
and thrive on Spanish shores.
We seek success in Finland,
are born and die in Maine.
In minor ways we differ,
in major we're the same.
I note the obvious differences
between each sort and type,
but we are more alike, my friends,
than we are unalike.
We are more alike, my friends,
than we are unalike.
We are more alike, my friends,
than we are unalike.
we weep on England's moors,

We are more alike, my friends,

We are more alike, my friends,
than we are unalike.
When Maya Angelou said, “We are more alike, my friend,
than we are unalike” She meant that no one she sees, hears, or looks at is the
same. No matter what color your skin is, what your personality is, or who you
are, you are different! Like Maya said, “I know ten thousand women called Jane
and Mary Jane but I’ve not seen any two who really were the same.” Everything
and everyone is different. Pizza is not the same as spaghetti, and blue is not
the same as green. Things and people may look the same, but they never could be
because they are different. Everyone is different. You could be a doctor,
comedian, nurse, or even a veterinarian, and you still can’t be the same. We all
have good qualities, and bad qualities. We could be small or big, smart or
dumb, or even ugly or cute. It’s good to be different. The major point is that
we are all human beings, but even though we are different, we are still part of
the “Human Family.” Maya Angelou named this poem “Human Family” because we are
different but we are still all part of the human family! Maya Angelou is a very
important person from this day and this day forward. Dead or alive, we still
remember her.

Guest blogger- Farewell from Mr. Strobel
My semester is coming to an end at Stockton College and it is almost time for graduation! My last day of student teaching at the Marsh School will be Wednesday, April 16th. I just wanted to take the time to thank everyone who contributed to making this experience so enjoyable for me including the students, parents, and the staff here at the Marsh School.
During my time spent here I have gotten the opportunity to meet many of the parents, all of which should be proud. Throughout my substituting and other educational fieldwork experiences, this is hands-down the best group of students I have ever come across. From the very beginning, the students have done an excellent job of making me feel welcomed in the classroom and making me a true part of their "Stanton Family." I am going to sincerely miss every single one of you. These students have taught me so much and I will take what I've learned with me as I more forward in my career. I hope that when I have a classroom of my own, that my students are as half as personable and enjoyable as the one's I have met this year. I wish you all luck. Have a safe and wonderful spring break.
Your friend,
Mr. Strobel

South Jersey League Swim
Championship
John R:
The day of my swim championship race was thrilling. At first I was pretty nervous because it was the winter swim championships for South Jersey. My first event was the freestyle stroke. I got second place in my heat. Next I did the backstroke. I was swimming as fast as I could. When I got out I asked for my time. He said... 23.00 seconds flat! Then he gave me a ribbon that said heat winner. I was filled with excitement! Gavin and I were number one and number two out of all 7-8 year old swimmers. We scored 37 points for our team together. When I go to my award ceremony I am going to receive a gold medal. I swam two more events. My last event was the freestyle relay. I was the anchor and it was a close race. We were neck and neck with the other team. Finally, they won by a teeny tiny millisecond. I had a great time at this thrilling swim meet.
Gavin N:
For my swim championships this year I had to go to bed early the night before to get enough rest and wake up early because it was far away. I had to pack a lot of healthy food like apples and granola bars so I would have a lot of energy for the day. When I got there I was so nervous. My belly felt upside down. I was nervous because I could take home four medals. In my last championship race I won three bronze medals. My first heat (race) was the freestyle stroke. I got 18 seconds. I couldn’t believe I came in fourth place out of all the 7 and 8 year olds. My second heat was the backstroke and I came in second behind John. The third race was the butterfly stroke and I came in second again out of all the 7 and 8 year olds. The last race of the day was a freestyle relay with John and 2 other kids. I went first and John was the anchor. We got second place again but it was really, really close. So I got three bronze medals last year, three silver medals this year and I’m going for three gold next year. I think I had a pretty good championship this year.

Mr. Strobel Introduces Himself
My name is Jason Strobel, and I am a senior at The Richard Stockton College
of New Jersey. I am from Maple Shade, NJ but have been living in Brigantine for
the past 4 years. Growing up as a middle child, I've always had my brothers to play with. I have been involved with sports and different extra curricular activities my whole life. I played baseball, soccer, hockey, and always had a passion for math. I was also a member of the Student Council from 6th-12th grade and also volunteered as a fire fighter. I am graduating from Stockton this upcoming May with a BA in
Sociology/Anthropology as well as my Elementary teacher certification.
I will be spending the next four months or so working side by side with Ms. Stanton as a student teacher. I will be monitored by Ms. Stanton as well as my supervisor from Stockton College.
As a student teacher, I will be collaborating with Ms. Stanton and will
progressively take on responsibilities regarding different aspects of classroom
management, lesson planning, assessment, and grading.
I am honored to be placed in such a great school, and am very excited to
get to know all of you!

I will always remember the time when I got my cast off. I had broken my leg on September 10th. I wore the cast for about 6 weeks. It all started when I was going to the hospital. I had to sit in the waiting room for a couple of minutes until the doctor called me in. I had to sit on the bed while they got this mini saw. They said that it wouldn't cut my skin. They even put the saw on their own hand for proof! Then they began to saw the cast. The saw touched me a couple of times, but all it did was burn just a little bit. First, they sawed both sides of the cast. Then they got this tool to pry open the cast. I was a little scared because the doctor said the tool might pinch me. Finally, when they got the cast open, I looked at my leg. It was as small as my pinky! My muscles no strength after being in the cast so long. Then they took me into the x-ray room to make sure that nothing happened to my leg while it was in the cast. After that, they said my leg was all ready to go and that I will be back walking and running in no time. At first it was strange because it felt like I was still in the cast. A few weeks later I am feeling totally back to normal. I hope that if you every get a broken leg, you won't be afraid of the saw.

Two Assemblies!
This week we had two special assemblies. One was all about safety, and the other was filled with magic.
Lieutenant DeRitis visited us to present his annual assembly on Fire Safety. Here are some of the
things we learned about what to do in case of a fire or other emergency.
Lieutenant DeRitis visited us to present his annual assembly on Fire Safety. Here are some of the
things we learned about what to do in case of a fire or other emergency.
- Make sure your family has a safe meeting place outside in case of fire.
- Put Child Safety stickers on the window and bedroom door of all children in the family.
- Stop, drop and roll if your clothes are on fire. Cover your face to protect yourself.
- Block smoke from under your door with a towel or clothing.
- Make sure the door is not HOT with the back of your hand.
- Never go back inside a burning place.
- Sleep with your bedroom door closed.
- Don't hide in your room. Firemen need to find you. Stay low to the floor.
- Call 9-1-1 to get help. Call from your house phone if you can so the computer knows where you are.
- If you call from a cell phone, FIRST say your address!
